Early morning squall leaves a trail of destruction

IMPHAL, Apr 27 : A strong squall accompanied by moderate rain lashed Manipur in the wee hours of Wednesday, leaving behind a trail of destruction and power outage in different parts of the State for several hours.
However, no human casualties have been reported till the time of filing this report.
Reportedly, many houses were badly damaged in areas under Nambol police station by the destructive squall forcing many to
bear the situation
without a roof over their heads.
Trails of destruction left behind by the sudden and fierce storm were witnessed in several locations as trees were uprooted while  electric wires
were snapped at many locations.
It is reported that many school buildings, community halls were badly damaged by the storm that swept through the State at around 2 am.
The sights of destruction were more visible at Phoijing Chingmang under Nambol Municipal Council Ward no 3 and Phoijing Makha Leikai.
The structures damaged by the storm have been inspected by Development & Protection United Voluntary Organisation (DPUVO) Nambol which collected data of the damage incurred so as to seek compensation from the Government.
The hailstorm also wreaked havoc in Imphal West and Imphal East districts as many trees were uprooted and many houses blown away.
Three old trees were reportedly uprooted inside Kangla in Imphal city. Entry to the area was prohibited for several
hours as the local authorities removed the fallen trees.
At least one banyan tree at Luker ground in Sangaithel has also been uprooted by the hailstorm.
Power outages were also reported from different parts of the State
as the strong storm snapped several electric lines.
It is further reported that at least 15 houses were badly damaged by the storm at Oklong
village in Noney district and many electric poles broken.
There is no report of electricity being restored in different parts of Noney till the time of filing this report.
