Megha's 'Manipuri Cinema' sees light of day

Legendary theatre director and writer Ratan Thiyam released a book titled 'Manipuri Cinema' penned by Meghachandra Kongbam, former Director of Information & Public Relations at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, today.
At the function, Ratan Thiyam said that the most important part of Manipuri Cinema is its aesthetic value and added that various aspects of 'our society' should be considered while making commercial films.
He also stated that there is a need to focus on making films which can be beneficial to the children. Ratan Thiyam also appealed to the filmmakers and producers to make films which reflect social values.    
In his speech, Commissioner IPR and Arts & Culture M Joy said that filmmakers need to focus on making films which connect the generations and render our support in producing films which have social values.
Professor MC Arun of Department of Anthropology, Manipur University reviewed the book before its release.
In his review speech, Arun said that the book throws light on the environment of cinema before the actual birth of Manipuri cinema and the issues of Manipuri cinema among others.
Meghachandra Kongbam, the author of the book, highlighted his journey in the field of art and culture as a critic of  films and stated that he continuously contributed articles on films from various parts of the country.
He also urged the readers for positive suggestions, criticisms etc. for improvement of his book.  
Meghachandra Kongbam of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, received Swarna Kamal for the Best Film Critic in the National Film Awards in 2015. He is a member of Film Critics Circle of India and currently the president of Film Society of Manipur, the third oldest film society in North East India. He is also the founder of Cine Artistes and Technician Association Manipur.
The release function was attended by many renowned filmmakers, writers, critics, artists, cine lovers and others working in the field of Manipuri Cinema.
