IMPHAL, May 10 : Former chairman of an active armed outfit in Manipur RK Sanayaima has categorically stated that the State will fall further into the grip of drug abuse if the drug smugglers and manufacturers are not given exemplary punishment.
He also said that "our society is overwhelmed by the drug menace."
While addressing a Mother's Day celebration organised by Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup at Manipur Press Club today, RK Sanayaima continued that the rate of drug misuse among the teenagers is also  increasing in Manipur as many students as young as those who are in Class VII or VIII abuse drugs.
He claimed that there is also a home delivery facility for contraband items such as WY tablets and heroin.
Saying that tough measures should be taken up to check drug misuse and the Government alone couldn't control it, Sanayaima maintained that a collective effort as well as political will and sincerity are needed to put an end to drug menace.
"There is no denying that the problem of drug menace in Manipur is immense," he added.
Sanayaima further maintained that the Court must award befitting punishment as early as possible if anyone is caught along with illegal drugs.
About the occasion, Sanayaima said that the contribution of women in the society is immense as they play various roles everyday and the most important of them all  is the role of a mother.
