Manipur’s birth sex ratio reaches 965.2 in 2021-22: Family Welfare Dept

Imphal, May 14 : The Directorate of Family Welfare of Manipur has reported that the state’s sex ratio at birth recorded 965.2 female per 1,000 male in the year 2021-2022.
This clarification comes following an annual report by the Civil Registration System- 2020, which listed Manipur as having the lowest birth sex ratio state of the country with 880 female per 1000 male.
In the report released by the Registrar General of India (RGI) on May 3, Ladakh recorded the highest sex ratio at birth in the country with 1104, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 1011, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tripura and Kerala.
According to Dr N Dihe Mao, Additional Director of Family Welfare Department, child sex ratio of Manipur was 953.99 female at birth per 1000 male in the year 2020-2021.
“The information is directly collected from the health management information system (HMIS) report which is a government to government (G2G) web-based monitoring information system. Moreover, the information is being provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW),” said Dr Mao.
He also stated that the issue of declining sex ratio has been discussed in the Manipur legislative assembly session on February 12, 2021 and the House has already declared that Manipur being worst in sex ratio in the country is totally wrong.
As per the HMIS report, a total of 20,609 children were born in Manipur as on April 28 this year.
In the year 2021-2022, Imphal West registered the highest number of child birth with 6,903 and sex ratio is 1012.54, while Jiribam recorded the lowest with 47 children and 566.67 as sex ratio, respectively.
Among the remaining districts, 159 children were registered in Bishnupur (1178.08 sex ratio), Chandel 410 (990.29), Churachandpur 2,627 (964.85), Imphal East 2,754 (955.97), Kakching 113 (738.46), 132 in Kamjong (692.31), 952 children in Kangpokpi (911.65), Noney 307 (967.95), Pherzawl 128 (802.82), 3004 children in Senapati (900.06 sex ratio), Tamenglong 592 (934.64), Tengnoupal 171 (1085.37) 1,161 children in Thoubal ( 912.69) and Ukhrul 1,149 children (1055.46 as sex ratio).
