SENAPATI, May 13: In an effort to secure National Highway-2, lifeline of the state, P Doungel, IPS, DGP Manipur on Friday flagged off the first GPS enabled dedicated Highway Patrol consisting of 8 vehicles at Senapati.
The vehicles are equipped with GPS and wireless communication sets, and can be reached by dialling 112 and PCR no 8798198810 (SPT) and 9362153322 (KPI).
The flagging off ceremony was participated by Clay Khongsai, IPS, Additional DGP (Trg/L&O); I K Muivah, IPS, IGP (ADM); Nitish Kumar Ujjwal, IPS, IGP (Z-III); RK Tutusana, IPS, IGP, Director, MPTC, Pangei; Mamata Wahengbam, IPS, IGP (Trg); Mangkhogin Haokip, IPS, Dy IGP (R-IV); Jhalajit, IPS, AD MPTC; Amrita Sinha, IPS, SP Kangpokpi; Karthik Malladi, IPS, SP Senapati; Mahesh Choudhary, DC Senapati; Ghanashyam Sharma, MPS AD MPTC; Meghachandra Sharma, MPS SP-NAB; and Chiphang Cecelia Sopemla, MPS, SP, CMTW, Imphal.
The vehicles will cover the stretch of NH-2 from Mao, Senapati to Gamgiphai, Kangpokpi district. Each vehicle will cover a distance of 10-12 Km.
The Highway Patrol will also act as the first responder to any crime or distress along the highway.
Earlier, Manipur Police Training College, Pangei also organised a one day workshop on "Narcotic Law Enforcement" at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati.
It was hosted by SPs of Senapati and Kangpokpi districts. Police officers from Senapati and Kangpokpi district including 4th IRB, Taphou attended the programme.
At the workshop, K Meghachandra Singh spoke on "Important roles and duties of DLOs, Magistrates, Forest officers and Police Officers, etc in prevention and destruction of poppy cultivation in Manipur".
A Ghanashyam Sharma also delivered a lecture on "Investigation of NDPS cases, Do’s & Don’ts and check list before submission of charge sheet"; Sureshkumar Singh, SP-NCB, Sub-Zonal Office, Imphal on "Important aspects of Search, Seizure and Arrest in NDPS cases"; and G Malangmei & Kimboi Vaiphei, investigators, NAB, Manipur on "How to go about a successful ND & PS case, a case study".
