Nishikant flags off theatre troupe to Vadodara

IMPHAL, May 14: Keishamthong AC MLA Sapam Nishikant Singh flagged off a troupe of Yumjao Lairembi Dramatic and Cultural Union artistes today who are set to present their play "Shamlangee Thong Landuna" at Poorvattor Rastriya Natya Samaroh 2022 (a festival of North East in other States) to be held at Vadodara, Gujarart.
The festival is being  organised by the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
The flagging off ceremony was held at Khagem- palli Huidrom Leikai today.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Sapam Nishikant said that he was honoured to be granted the opportunity to flag off the artistes on their way to present the play. He wished them success on their trip to the festival.
Aside from this, the MLA also provided monetary assistance to support their trip as well as to encourage the elders of the union and other artistes.
Leishangthem Ratan Kumar Singh, general secretary, Yumjao Lairembi Dra- matic and Cultural Union, also spoke at the occasion and stated that the union has been invited to participate in the festival which is being held under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture.
The play penned by retd IAS Kangjam Radhakumar and directed by L Shyam-kishore will be staged at the festival on May 19, he shared.
L Ratankumar Singh further said that it was the union's good fortune to be one among six theatrical groups from Manipur to receive invitations for this festival.
 Mani Yumnam, executive member, Yumjao Lai- rembi Dramatic and Cultural Union informed that altogether 15 artistes will be leaving Manipur to present the play at Vadodara, Gujarat. Music and make-up artist have already left for Gujarat earlier, he stated.
He added that this was the first time the union received an invitation from the National School of Drama and also the first time their troupe woud be presenting a play outside of Manipur. He expressed both pride and excitement at this new prospect.
It may be noted that Poorvattor Rastriya Natya Samaroh 2022 will be held across three Indian States, namely, Vadodara in Gujarat; Bikaner in Rajasthan and Bengaluru in Karnataka.
