IMPHAL, May 20
The Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA) Churachandpur in the strongest term condemned  'the senseless display of power under the guise of tree plantation drive by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)  led by its State president Barish Sharma' where the karyakartas from Imphal valley had forcefully trespassed the Thangjing range on the May 14, 2022.'
KCA in a statement said that they were heavily armed and threatened the local villagers with dire consequences if they were not allowed to do so.
The Association is left in awe and despair as to why such act of goondaism and threats were meted out by the youth wing of one of the largest political parties in the world like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which the Kukis have honestly supported and felt a part of it with high hope in the recent election in Manipur for equitable development in the most neglected hill districts of the state.
The conduct of the Yuva Morcha has created communal tension and hatred between the majority Meitei and the hill communities disturbing the prevailing peace and tranquility in the area, claimed KCA.
While condemning such acts of forceful trespassing and intimidation by the BJYM, the association appealed to all individuals and organisations to shun violence and work collectively for the upliftment of the State.
'The unthinking act of trespassing has not only disturbed the long existing cordial relationship shared between the local communities, it has created fear psychosis and animosity between various communities residing in the area', added the statement. The KCA also appealed to all to avoid such naive, irrational and undemocratic activities in future and the perpetrators of such heinous and anti-social elements are booked as per law of the land at the earliest.
