IMPHAL, May 8 : Woolf Lovers Trust (WLT) rescued at least five dogs from meat traders with the help of People  for Animals, Manipur and State police, yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at Monsangei today,   WLT founder Dr Supriya Thiyam said  that they were informed about trading some dogs for meat at Senapati Keithel by two youths from the area.
Saying that they shortly informed PFA and State police and went to  Senapati Keithel to rescue the canines,  Dr Supriya said that the trend of rearing dogs for meat trade is becoming more prevalent in Manipur and to stop this a collective effort is needed.
She said that WLT has rescued over 100 stray dogs since its establishment in Noida and different parts of Manipur.
Dr Supriya also stated  that trading dogs for meat is against Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act but there seems to be lack of awareness regarding this in Manipur.
She then urged all to contact WLT at 9818668328 if they witness any instance of cruelty to dogs.
