Training programme on strengthening Police response mechanism to effectively handle cases of human trafficking and child victims organised

FXB India Suraksha in association with Imphal West District Police organized a one-day training programme today in collaboration with Imphal West Police and District Child Protection Unit.
The objective of the training programme is to strengthen Police response mechanism to effectively handle cases of human trafficking and child victims, said a press release by Programme Officer, FXB India Suraksha.
The one-day training programme included discussion on the existing laws related to child protection and human trafficking.  
A total of 40 Police officers participated during the programme.
The programme was conducted as part of project Mukti- Anti-Trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur implemented with the support of ECPAT Luxembourg.
Ksh Shivakanta Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police and Luxmi Thingbaijam, MPS, Addl. SP, Imphal West were the chief guests of the event.
Md. Arshad Saeed Shah, Secretary, Imphal East District Legal Services Authority, Yurembam Indramani, DCPO, District Child Protection Unit, Imphal West, Thiyam Rajkishore Singh, Advocate Manipur High Court and former chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Imphal West and Sunil Khoinaijam Meitei, Programme Officer, FXBIS, Imphal were the resource persons for both the programmes.
Ksh Shivakanta Singh, IPS while speaking at the event encouraged the participants to utilize the platform to the best of their abilities.
He maintained that human trafficking is the third most lucrating business run illegally globally.
“Manipur has also emerged as not only a source State but also a transit location used mostly to traffic victims to other countries using the Myanmar border,” he stated.
Luxmi Thingbaijam, MPS, Addl. SP, Imphal West stated that such training programmes should be conducted in regular intervals to update the Police officials in order to upgrade their skills and motivate them for effective and timely action in the cases.
Short movies related to the training topics were screened as a part of the training programme for better understanding of the participants.
FXB India Suraksha has been implementing Project Mukti since 2015 and at present is implementing Phase II of the project.
Till date the project has been conducting series of training programs for law enforcement officials including Paramilitary officials in Manipur and have been able to train around 900 law enforcement officials, added the release.
