IMPHAL, Jun 16: Yuimi Horam, president ICHAM has appealed to the State Government to conduct the necessary survey and bring about an amicable solution to the Indo-Myanmar border dispute at the earliest.
The ICHAM president made this statement at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking to media persons, he said that officials of the State Government along with high level officials from Myanmar and members of ICHAM had looked into the intricacies of this border dispute in 2013. Following this, there was another controversy surrounding a sub-pillar erected at Kwatha Khunou, he said. Subsequently, a ban had been placed on erection of border fences until the matter was resolved.
In 2018, a team from Surveyor Of India had conducted a survey of the disputed areas in 2018. A second survey date had been fixed as the matter could not be wrapped up in a single day. However, with the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, the survey remained incomplete, he rued.
Yuimi Horam also lauded the UCM for their timely act in stopping the Border Roads Task Force's border fencing effort and reiterated that border fences cannot be erected as long as the Indo-Myanmar border dispute remains unresolved.
As such, he fervently urged the State Government to conduct the required surveys to bring an end to this dispute.
Leidong, former chairman of Satang village, also appealed for a speedy resolution of this issue. He added that villagers residing in the disputed areas have been negatively affected by this controversy and called for a solution in their interest.
