State Junior Boxing Championship : Imphal West gather 3 bronze medals on Day 1

IMPHAL, Jun 1 : Imphal West boxing team have bagged as many as three bronze medals as the 29th Junior Boys and 13th Junior Girls State Level Boxing Championships kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Ring under the aegis of Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA).
The championships were formally opened in the presence of Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, K Govindas; N Rimotkumar, president MABA and T Phulen, Director Youth Affairs and Sports as presidium members.
The opening day of the championships saw Imphal pick up three bronze medals and Kamjong, Kakching and Thoubal district units seal a bronze medal apiece.
The boys 46 kg category (2006-07) final will see Imphal East's Mutum Nikison take on Kakching's Md Mujahid.
Nikison earned a place in the final beating Chongtham Naoba in the semi-final today before Md Mujahid downed Kamjong's Awungshi Jingo in another semi-final clash.
Meanwhile, Ukhrul's Mashungchui Phungshok will face off against Angom Ronaldo of Bishnupur in the junior boys 48 kg final. Mashungchui Phungshok boxed his way to the final beating Samom Bikash of Kakching in the semi-final while Angom Ronaldo saw off Khunjamayum Bidyananda of Imphal West in another semi-final match to complete the final line up.
Moirangthem Yaikhomba of Imphal East in the meantime secured the junior boys 52 kg final berth beating Salam Diamond of Imphal West in a semi-final bout today.
Rengneivar Serto Kom of Churachandpur also entered junior boys 63 kg final beating Tekcham Radhakanta of Thoubal in a semi-final bout.
The day also saw Mayengbam Herojit of Kakching (54 kg) and Elangbam Sunanda of Kakching (57 kg) enter semi-finals as Thuiranring Kharing of Ukhrul got a walkover win against Pheiroijam Ranbir of Imphal East in the 50 kg junior boys quarter final.
Mayengbam Herojit knocked Laishram Romesh of Thoubal 5-0 in the quarter final while Elangbam Sunanda secured a similar win over Soibam Zlee of Thoubal.
Junior Girls
In the junior girls bouts, Laishram Jayaluxmi of Imphal East edged out Esther Neipineng of Churachandpur 3-2 to move into junior girls (2006-07) 46 kg semi-finals
