KIYG Thang-Ta athletes accorded rousing reception

IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur has extended a warm reception to the Thang-Ta athletes who represented Manipur in the 4th Khelo India Youth Games 2021 today at the association office at Thang-Ta Maheikol, Yumnam Huidrom.
It may be noted that Manipur thang-ta team bagged a total of 9 gold and 2 silver medals at the Thang-Ta event of the Games held in Panchkula, Haryana from June 4 to 6.
The reception programme was attended by Huidrom Premkumar Singh, president, World Thang-Ta Federation; Thounaojam Priyokumar Singh, former secretary, Thang-Ta Federation of India and Heikrujam Cha Babu, secretary, Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
In all 12 athletes (6 male and 6 female) from Manipur competed in the Phunaba Ama, Phunaba Anishuba, Thang Haiba and Thanglon and Khonglon-Khutlon competitions, and only one athlete missed the podium finish.
140 athletes from across 22 States and UTs participated in the Thang-Ta event in the games and Manipur men's (4 gold and 1 silver) and women's teams (5 gold and 1 silver) emerged team champions.
Huidrom Premkumar, president of World Thang-Ta Federation took the opportunity of the reception function to encourage the medallists and participants alongside officials who led the team at the games.
He also spoke highly of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his kind initiatives to promote indigenous martial art of Thang-Ta in the National platform like Khelo India Youth Games.
 It may be noted that Laipubam Bishal Sharma (Phunaba Ama -56 kg), Dijen Shagolshem (Thang-Haiba), Moirangthem Arbin Meitei (Phunaba Ama -60 kg), Chandani Sunar (Thanglon and Khonglon-Khutlon), Khundongbam Priyangka Chanu (Phunaba Ama -56 kg), Longjam Sophia (Thang Haiba), Yumnam Pinky Devi (Phunaba Ama -52 kg), Konjengbam Thaja (Phunaba Anishuba -52 kg) and Mutum Thoisana Singh (Phunaba Anishuba -56 kg) won Manipur gold medals at the games as Kolom Merina (Phunaba Anishuba -56 kg) and Abujam Lanchenba (Thanglon and Khonglon-Khutlon) bagged a silver medal each.
Thanks to a bulk of 11 medals fetched by Thang-Ta team, Manipur finished overall fourth in the games with a total of 19 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
