War on Drugs : Huge quantities of drugs seized

IMP/KPI, Jun 20: Huge quantities of drugs worth several crores have been seized by the State Police from different places.
A team of Bishnupur commandos arrested three women along with 15 packets of opium weighing more than 11 Kgs today morning from Bishnupur Police Station gate along Tiddim Road.
Acting on credible inputs from 31 Assam Rifles about illegal transportation of contraband items along Tiddim Road by some women, a team of Bishnupur commandos conducted frisking and checking at Bishnupur Police Station gate along Tiddim Road and detained one vehicle (TATA winger).
There were three women passengers inside the vehicle and they were identified as Neikholhing Haolai (55) w/o (L) Zamlun Haolai of Mollen Kamsei Village, Ukhrul; Lhingjalam Hangshing (49) w/o Haothang Hangshing of Mollen Kamsei village, Ukhrul and Hekim Hangsing (47) w/o (L) Lenmang Hangsing of Lhungtin village, Kangpokpi.
On frisking the three women, by women police personnel of Bishnupur district police in presence of an Executive Magistrate at around 8 am, eight plastic packets containing opium and weighing 4.022 Kgs were found concealed beneath the waist belt of Neikholhing Haolai and three other packets of opium weighing 3.502 Kgs which were concealed beneath the waist belt of Lhingjalam Hangshing were recovered.
From Hekim Hangsing, the police team recovered and seized four packets of opium weighing 3.51 Kgs.
Hence, the police team seized a total 11.03 kilograms from their possession along with Rs 19,840 in cash at around 10 am.
The arrested women and the seized opium were handed over to Bishnupur police station for necessary action under the ND&PS Act.  
Meanwhile, Kangpokpi Police seized four packets of contraband drugs suspected to be brown sugar weighing approximately 2.025 Kgs on June 17 at around 4 pm.
Notably, the Chief Minister, on behalf of the State Government, had recently rewarded Kangpokpi police with Rs 10 lakh in recognition of the successful seizures of two huge consignments of drugs under War on Drugs 2.0.
In connection with the third seizure, a press meet was held today at the office of SP Kangpokpi.
Briefing media persons, SP Kangpokpi Amrita Sinha said that based on information about suspicious movement of drug peddlers along the highway, Kangpokpi police teams stopped a Mahindra Bolero (Grey colour) for checking and frisking at Kangpokpi Police Station Gate along the Trans Asian Highway No 1 (NH-2).
The driver identified as P Sahriini Mikrii (56) s/o Puni of Laii, Senapati district, and the occupant identified as Paotinmang Khongsai (21) s/o Thanglen Khongsai of J. Songpijang village, Tengnoupal sub-division, (as per their Aadhar cards), at present residing at Naphai village under Lhungtin sub-division in Kangpokpi district were found behaving in a very suspicious manner, Amrita Sinha said.
On preliminary inquiries, the duo denied presence of contraband drugs in their vehicle but due to their suspicious nature and their denial of transportation of drugs in the vehicle, a mechanic was requisitioned, who inspected the vehicle very carefully and minutely on all sides.
The mechanic found two boxes neatly welded to the undercarriage underneath the clutch pedal on the right and underneath the footboard on the left of the vehicle which is otherwise not found on a normal Bolero vehicle.
The accused persons were then interrogated again and ultimately they revealed the presence of contraband drugs in the vehicle. Subsequently, the drugs were seized in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses while the two accused persons were formally arrested, added the SP.
The duo were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Kangpokpi and were remanded to police custody for 10 days till June 27.
On the other hand, a team of Kakching district commandos arrested two drug smugglers along with 89 soap cases of heroin (No 4) which weighed 1.090 Kg today morning from in front of Pallel Commando check-post, Leimanai Chingjin.
Briefing media persons at his office, Kakching SP Shrey Vats said that as a part of the war on drugs, a team of Kakching commandos conducted normal frisking and checking exercise in front of the check-post.
At around 11.20 am, the commando team detained one car (Maruti Suzuki Brezza) for verification and checking.
During the checking of the vehicle, 89 soap cases containing heroin were found concealed inside the fuel tank and on the right side panel below the body of the vehicle.
Hence both the driver and one occupant of the vehicle were arrested on spot.
The arrested driver and the occupant have been identified as Manglalmuon Gangte (35) s/o Paoneimang Gangte of Moreh Ward No 2, Mission Veng, Tengnoupal district and Houminsem Singsong (25) s/o Henkhogin Singson of Zalenphai village, Moreh, Tengnoupal district.
The arrested persons along with the seized drugs were produced before the media persons today afternoon.
