IMPHAL, Jun 22 : The family members of Arambam Nanao who allegedly died in police custody and the JAC concerned have claimed the mortal remains of the deceased jeweller nearly after 50 days from RIMS morgue today at around 12 pm.
Reportedly, the family members and the JAC agreed to claim the body after a meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The State police gave security cover to prevent any untoward incident while the corpse was taken to Kangabam Leikai to perform the last rites.
Speaking to the media, aunt of the deceased Arambam ongbi Lata stated that they claimed the body as the Chief Minister has assured to take up befitting legal action against the accused SI Jitendro and other police personnel involved in the case on June 19.
She also said that the Chief Minister had agreed to provide a Government job to the wife of A Nanao and enlist his child at a Central school at free of cost, apart from giving ex gratia to the  bereaved family.
She said that they will launch an intense agitation if the Chief Minister fails to keep his word.
The main accused of the case SI Jitendro (41), s/o (L) Gopal from Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai has been in judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa since May 16.
