IMPHAL, Jun 25
The Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Manipur (RNYOM) and National Highway Surveillance Committee (NHSC) have deplored the failure of the State Government to keep its promises and commitment to improve the deteriorating condition of Tongjei Maril Road (Old Cachar Road).
In a joint statement, the organisations informed that a bandh was imposed earlier along the Old Cachar Road-Bishnupur to Rengpang via Khoupum valley but it was called off following an agreement with PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
"The Government agreed to initiate measures to improve/repair the road and provide a Road Task Force to upgrade the road upto National Highway standard in one or two months", it claimed.
The organisations alleged that the State Government has failed to materialize its commitment with no signs of improvement, repairing and reconstruction so far.
"The Road Task Force cannot be seen despite the assurance", it added.
RNYOM, NHSC further cautioned that the organisations would be compelled to initiate a series of democratic agitation if the Government failed to address their grievances at the earliest.
