IMPHAL, Jun 2: The Demand Committee on Creation of Autonomous District Councils (DCCADCs) has urged the State Government to create separate ADCs for the newly created districts of Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney and Tengnoupal at the earliest.
A press release issued by the DCCADCs cited the Cabinet decision of March 27, 2021 and the subsequent ruling of the High Court of Manipur passed on August 12, 2021 which reportedly favoured creation of separate ADCs for the four new districts.
The committee has also appealed to the authority concerned to initiate delimitation process in all the existing district council constituencies which would be affected by creation of new ADCs as well as for the new ADCs.
The DCCADCs further urged the State Government to conduct elections of 10 ADCs at the earliest in the interest of tribal people of Manipur.
Saying that the Government should pay due attention to the interest and aspirations of small minority tribes living in every hill district of Manipur, the committee appealed to the authority concerned to include those minority tribes whose population is just around 5000 in the democratic process so that they would be able to participate in local self-government as elected ADC Members through the coming ADC elections.
