IMPHAL, Jun 5 : The Public Works Department (PWD) has informed all the allottees occupying its quarters to submit their places of posting and  permanent addresses to the Estate Officer (Common Works) within 20 days  with effect from June 6.
Addressing the media today, Chief Engineer of PWD Khuraijam Temba said that the State Government has been carrying a verification drive at Government quarters located at Langol, Game Village, Lamphel, Tribal Colony, Babupara, Sanjenthong, DM College Major Khul and 2nd MR under the directive of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Stating that altogether 1846 Government quarters are being allotted to PWD, Kh Temba said that the drive is being carried out to examine if the quarters are being occupied by the authorised persons or lease it to some other persons.
He further said that the Government has suspended about 10 officials for leasing the quarters to unauthorised persons.
The Quarter Allotment Rule implemented in 1989 was amended in 1994, Kh Temba and as per it Government quarters in Imphal areas cannot be given out to officials from Imphal or adjacent areas with the radius of 8 kms from the State Capital under normal circumstances, he informed and added that the same, however, can be revised with due approval of Estate  officer and by hiking the accommodation charge.
He further said that the officials who are posted at Churachandpur Tamenglong, Ukhrul and some other places cannot occupy Government quarters as per the  rule.
Continuing that applications which sought allotment of Government  quarters were submitted by incorporating the signature of DDO or Head of  Office and other  details such as place of posting, Temba said that the  many of the employees who still occupy the quarters might have transferred to other places already.
The Chief Engineer then urged all concerned to submit the updated details which incorporate their place of posting and permanent address within 20 days to the Estate Officer starting tomorrow (June 6) so as to identify the unauthorised occupants, if any.
