The Kabui Union, Manipur (KUM) has urged the Kuki  Cultural & Heritage Preservation Association (KCHPA) to remove the signboard which 'wrongly' depict the ownership of Salangthen (Chamanglong) at Thangjing Hill Range and prohibits the entry of people at the earliest.
In a statement, KUM said that Salangthen is a place dedicated to Kabui Salang Maiba (Ramngampou) who is associated with the history, literature, folklore, mythology, legends and other accounts of ancient Moirang.
A particular community claiming ownership of Salangthen is very unfortunate as the place is closely associated with the history of Kabui, it claimed and added that Kabuis are the aborigine of Manipur and no arguments can  deny the truth.
Unfortunately, the number of people coming from the neighbouring country now exceeds the population of Kabuis and they have been bringing up their version of history to take possession of sites sacred to the indigenous people, it added.
"Those who don't know the history of Kabui and Moirang Kangleirol can never be a Manipuri," KUM said and urged the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
The union further urged the Government to declare Salangthen, measuring about 30 acres, as a historical site.
Notably, KUM had also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren in January 2021 to preserve the sacred places of Kabui Salang Maiba (Ramngampou) and Kabui bride who turned into a stone at Ningthi Khul Hill Range.
It also asked the State Government to depute a team of archeologists to examine the sites and memorial stones there.
