Forest Department to intensify tree plantation drives

Forest Department, Manipur has informed that the department has initiated mass tree plantation drives at Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserved Forests (Koubru Hills), Churachandpur-Khoupum Protected Forest (Thangjing Hills), catchment of Singda Dam and other places of the State under the aegis of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Forest Minister Th Biswajit Singh.
In a release, Dr Aditya K Joshi, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, Government of Manipur stated that the mass tree plantation drive shall be intensified across the State till August 31, 2022 during which the Government is planning to plant more than 75 lakh seedlings in the forest areas with the assistance of various CSOs, voluntary agencies, NGOs, youth clubs and students.
"The Department believes that the target of planting 75 lakh saplings during the 3 months from June to August, 2022 and ensuring survival of each and every sapling planted can be achieved only when all participate in the drive as ambassadors", it added.
The Department also appealed to all to participate in the mass tree plantation drive being organised from June 5 to August 31 and to make every effort so that each sapling planted during the drive survives.
It further informed that the plantation activity will be coordinated in each district by the Divisional Forest Officers concerned and the saplings would be provided free of cost by the Forest Department.
