IMPHAL, Jul 1 : A team of Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India, MSC/CPI visited the site near Marangching village in Tupul today which was struck by a devastating landslide claiming the lives of 20 persons so far with many others still missing.
According to a statement, the team was led by L Sotinkumar, State secretary; M Joykumar, assistant secretary; N Singhajit, secretariat member and Th Suresh, executive member.
The team extended their condolences to the families of the victims and assured the affected people of assistance from the people of Imphal.
In view of the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, the team also expressed the need for the State Government to act cautiously in taking up developmental works in such disaster prone areas.
Further, they added that both the hill and valley areas of Manipur are earthquake-prone zones.
As such, the Government needs to undertake infrastructure development work in cognizance of this fact.
L Sotinkumar and M Joykumar also stressed on the need for railways construction work to be carried out in a more careful and well-regulated manner.
