IMPHAL, Jul 7: Contending that the one month’s notice given for election of  board of directors for the Manipur Apex Cooperative Marketing Society Limited is too short, the society’s chairman Kh Indira has appealed to the authority concerned to give two months’ time.
Speaking to media persons at the society’s Chingmeirong office today,  Indira said that the Cooperative Registrar issued a notification on May 20 for election of the society’s board of directors.
According to the notification, a new board of directors should be elected within a month but relevant Acts and rules say that six months’ time should be given to hold the election, Indira said. Even though due process has been initiated with appointment of the RO to hold the election,  reports have not been received from seven district cooperative offices, she said. The are 16 district cooperative offices and nine have submitted reports. As reports have not been received from all  cooperative offices, it would be difficult to hold the election within a month. Highlighting this problem, a representation has been submitted to the Minister concerned to postpone the election by a month, the chairman said. The election for board of directors should be held after receiving reports from all the cooperative offices and the general body meeting is held twice, she said.
