IMPHAL, Aug 23 : Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei edged past Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation (DMRAO) 2-1 as Rising Athletic Union (RAU), Lairikyengbam Leikai thumped United Khawzim Brothers (UKB), Churachandpur 2-0 in today's matches of the ongoing 15th Manipur State League.
In the second Group B encounter of the tournament organised by the All Manipur Football Association under the sponsorship of Thangmeiband AC MLA, Kh Joykison, three of three goals came up in the opening match with SSU and DM RAO giving their best to kick off their campaign in style.
Chingangbam Johnson Singh put SSU ahead 9 minutes into the game but DMRAO pulled level with Bonison Nongmaithem netting in the 25th minute off a fine move at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong. The parity was broken in the 44th minute with Mynam Arif Husain drilling home a fine shot to give SSU a 2-1 lead before the break.
The second half of this Group B encounter saw the two sides going neck and neck and looking for openings on multiple occasions but the defence line on both the ends were upto their task to keep all threats at bay. Eventually the scoreline remained unchanged till the final whistle.
Elsewhere in a Group A match staged later in the day, a goal each side of the break by Ngangom Jiten gave RAU a 2-0 win over UKB.
Jiten opened the scoring 6th minute into the game and added the other in the 60th minute. UKB had plenty of chances on both halves to comeback but their attempts either went wide or went straight into the hands of RAU keeper W Olenjit.
On August 25, Muvanlai Athletics will play MPSC in a Group A match from 1 pm before Ganggam Soccer Club (GSC) square off against KIYC, Kshetrigao from 3 pm in a Group B league match.
