Irawat Month Celebration begins

IMPHAL, Sep 1 : A month long 126th Irawat Month Celebration and All India Farmers' Demand Day began today at Roop Mahal Theatre.
The programme is being organised by Manipur Loumi Lup.
At the inaugural function, floral tributes were paid to the photo of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat.
At the event, State secretary of CPI Manipur State Council,  L Thoiren stated that September is an important month in the history of Manipur as both the death and birth anniversaries of the Lamyanba fall in September.
Continuing that Lamyanba Irawat was a true and visionary leader who worked to build a new Manipur, Thoiren maintained that Irawat was multi-talented and a man of different facets.
Thoiren also urged the Government to increase the man-day of MNREGA from the existing 100 to 200 days, save Loktak Lake, give compensation to the farmers affected by Loktak Project, ensure job security, protect forest areas and check rampant privatisation among others.
The programme was also attended by MSC/CPI, Control Commission chairman L Iboyaima, ICC Manipur president Dr M Nara and MSC/CPI former secretary L Sotinkumar among others.
