IMPHAL, Sep 9 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West remanded a 24 year old non local who has been accused of blackmailing his girlfriend after he threatened to upload her nude photos and obscene videos on social media platforms to judicial custody till September 23, today.
Accused Rithik Kumar Thakur, s/o Subash Thakur of Asan Ballia in Uttar Pradesh presently staying at Checkon was produced before the Court on completion of police custody period. The accused has reportedly admitted the charges levelled against him.
As per the IO of the case, the non local had an affair with the 'victim' in the past and he later recorded an intimate video of them in 2020.
After their break up, the accused tried to contact the victim but he instead was scolded by his ex-girlfriend, the IO told the Court
The accused, feeling cheated, bought a SIM card from a black market and opened a Whatsapp account, following which he sent the indecent video to the friend and cousin of the victim, claimed the IO.
The IO also submitted that the accused is the only person who was in possession of the obscene video/photos and it is highly suspected that the video/ photos might have been forwarded to other persons or uploaded to online websites.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the IO of the case remanded the accused to judicial custody till September 23.
