Declare State drought-hit, urges Irabot Foundation

IMPHAL, Sep 11: Irabot Foundation Manipur has appealed the State administration to carry out a survey of agricultural lands and declare the State drought-hit.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, Kh Gopen Luwang, president Irabot Foundation Manipur shared that the Foundation carried out a survey of agricultural fields in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur. Altogether around 10,000 'pari' of agricultural land was surveyed, he said.
During the survey, the Foundation discovered that farmers were facing a slew of problems due to inadequate rainfall. Some of the agricultural fields were cracked due to lack of water supply resulting in poor growth of paddy plants and so on.
In view of these circumstances, he urged the State Government to carry out a survey of these lands and take up appropriate measures to solve the issue.
Further, he informed that many farmers who suffered the 2019 drought had not yet been paid their due compensation and urged the Government to rectify the situation promptly.
