IMPHAL, Sep 11 : Manipur secured three more gold medals on Day 2 of the 33rd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship being underway at Patliputra Sports Complex, Kankerbagh, Patna .
N John opened the State's account yesterday. John clinched the gold in the U-16 boys 800 m race with a time of 2 minutes and 0.24 seconds.
The second day of the championship saw Manipur winning U-20 women's 10000 race walk gold when Chakpram Naocha Chanu clocked 1:00:59.23 (1 hour and 59.23 seconds). Jharkhand won both the silver and bronze medals with Manju Kumari and Sunita Kumari finishing the course in 1:16:30.13 and 1:22:20.30 respectively.
Manipur's Elangbam Gungcha and Ningombam Malemnganba then clinched the gold and silver medals in the U-16 boys 5000 m race walk event. Gungcha topped the event with a time of 24 minutes and 43.50 seconds as N Malemnganba took 24 minutes and 49.12 seconds to finish second.
West Bengal's Tuyaser Mallick settled for the bronze with a time of 26:19.52.
It was however a heartbreak for Chabungbam Thoibi as she finished 8th in the U-16 girls 3000 m race walk today as she clocked 19 minutes and 26.79 seconds. Assam's Apsara Sonar (15:40.38), Jharkhand's Jyoti Kumari (15:41.98) and Odisha's Nisha Barik (16:19.17) finished first, second and third respectively in the said competition.
