Manipur shuttlers shine at NE Inter State Zonal Badminton Championship, win 6 titles

IMPHAL, Sep 11 : Manipur shuttlers capped the NE Inter State Zonal Badminton Championship campaign on a bright note winning 6 of the 10 titles in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles events after winning both the senior and junior mixed team championships.
The championship which began on September 9 and culminated today was hosted in  Agartala.
H Vilinda and L Daina opened the gold medal account today in the junior girls doubles event beating Ankita Gogoi and Mayuri Barman 21-13 23-21 in the final .
State women's doubles pair of Angita Naorem and K Priya Devi overcame Pinky Karki and Taring Yania of Arunachal Pradesh 22-20 21-17 in a keenly contested final match for the women's doubles title.
H Rohenkumar and RK Alen clinched then clinched the junior boys title with a 21-14 17-21 21-14 win over Assam's Ayad Rashid and Tanmoy Bikash Baruah before H Malemnganba notched up the junior boys singles title beating Nikhil Chetry of Arunachal Pradesh.
Manipur also won the senior and junior mixed doubles titles today beating opponents from Assam in both age groups. It were K Dingku and K Priya who carved out a 20-22 24-22 21-14 hard fought win against Suraj Goala and Manali Bora in the senior mixed doubles final before Sirzeet Moirangthem and H Villinda eased to a 21-12 21-8 win over Assam's Rohit Gogoi and Shantipriya today.
Earlier in the day, Manipur's Ksh Maheshwori missed out on the women's singles gold medal as she went down 15-21 21-15 11-21 to Isharani Baruah of Assam.
It may be noted that Manipur junior team pulled off a 3-2 win over Assam to secure the junior mixed team championship title on September 9 before senior team won 3-1 against Assam.
