IMPHAL, Sep 20: Socio-political commentator Chongtham Bijoy has expressed discontentment over the rising trend of public mobs overpowering the rule of the Court or the Constitution.
He made the above statement while speaking to media persons during a press meet held at his residence at Lamphel today in connection with the clash which erupted at Chingmeirong on September 14, 2022 between the  locals and police during an eviction drive as per a High Court ruling. Raising the question whether the State follows 'democracy' or 'mobocracy', he expressed discontent that MLA, Government servants and political party members have stood against the Court order and termed it as really unfortunate.
He also maintained that spreading false stories that the land patta is fake as the land is public property and petitioner is trying to take the land through illegal means are all conspiracies to incite false public sentiment. Stating that the case regarding the eviction of land in Chingmeirong is one of the oldest civil cases, he maintained that trying to forcibly take one's own land through unfair means is highly unacceptable.
