DLSA Chandel organises legal awareness programme

As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Chandel under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority organised a 1-day legal awareness programme on "Effective Implementation of Strategies toward Eradication of Drug Menace" at South East Manipur Higher Secondary School, Kapaam, Chandel District.
Jacky Lucy, Retainer Lawyer, DLSA Chandel and S Irananda Singh, Legal Coordinator, Legal Aid Clinic, Community Network for Empowerment (CONE) attended the event as resource persons.
The programme began with a welcome speech by Rumeensha Ngoru, Principal, South East Manipur Hr Secondary School, said a release issued by DLSA Chandel.
Jacky Lucy spoke on "Legal Services Institutions in the State" and consequences & harmful effects of drug abuse.
She also highlighted the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985) and legal punishment for illicit trafficking & abusing of drugs causing drug menace in the State.
S Irananda Singh elaborated on the various types of drugs and role of the Golden Triangle (borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar) in causing Drug Menace.
Later, Babina Sanabam, Youth Coordinator (Drugs), CONE conducted an interactive session with the students.
The participants were sensitized about the harmful effect of drugs and encouraged to avoid drug abuse.
