Pfoze to challenge HC verdict in SC

IMPHAL, Sep 24: MP (Outer Manipur Parliamen-tary Constituency) Dr Lorho S Pfoze has decided to challenge the verdict of the High Court of Manipur which invalidated his election in the 2019 Lok Sabha election and declared his closest rival Houlim Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate elected in his place.
Polling for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency was held on April 11, 2019 and NPF’s Dr Lor-ho S Pfoze won the election by securing 3,63,527 votes.
Charging that the affidavit submitted by Dr Pfoze at the time of submission of his nomination papers concea-led many facts about his properties and wealth, Houlim Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate who secured 2,89,745 votes filed a petition at the High Court of Manipur.
After hearing the election petition nine times, Justice MV Muralidharan passed a judgment yesterday which not only invalidated the election of Dr Lorho S Pfoze but also declared his closest rival Houlim Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate elected as an MP from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Dr Lorho S Pfoze who is currently at Delhi informed that he would cha- llenge the High Court’s verdict in the Supreme Court.
He said that he would come back to Imphal very soon and consult lawyers.
