IMPHAL, Sep 24 : "We can, we will triumph" slogan was raised as Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) president Th Radheshyam distributed kits to the State contingent for the 36th National Games to be hosted by Gujarat from September 27 to October 10.
The kit distribution cum flagging off programme for the Games where athletes from across the country will compete for top honours in 36 sports disciplines was attended by MOA president, Th Radheshyam; State contingent's Chef de Mission K Baruni; MOA secretary, Sunil Elangbam; deputy Chef de Mission and other key functionaries of MOA.
Speaking at the occasion, Th Radheshyam exuded confidence that the State players will give their best performances in this edition of the National games and emerged with better medal count from previous editions.
Encouraging and extending best wishes, Th Radheshyam also lifted the spirit of the contingent by maintaining that he had also communicated well with his counterparts and organising committee at Gujarat to ensure safety and better stay of the State players during the games.
MOA secretary Sunil Elangbam, while giving a welcome address, maintained that Manipur will be competing in 21 disciplines at the games.
The first batch of State contingent will leave Imphal tomorrow. The State contingent consists of 279 players and 108 officials including Chef de Mission, he said while adding that Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu will be Manipur's flag bearer at the inaugural function of the games.
Maintaining that Manipur athletes have been known for slaying many athletes representing big States in previous editions of the games, he also expressed hope that State players raised the bar further from the previous edition hosted by Kerala.
The State team will surely make within top five in the medal tally at the games, he continued.
