United Committee Manipur organises farmer's training programme

United Committee Manipur in association with the Agriculture Department conducted a one day farmer's training programme on "Rejuvenation of Farm Economy and Distribution of Urea" at Awang Sekmai Parao Community Hall today.
As per a statement, the training programme was held as part of UCM's continued efforts to bring about self-reliance in terms of food production.
The programme was attended by Heikrujam (ongbi) Anandi Devi, Councillor, Sekmai Municipal Corporation as the chief guest; Joychandra Konthoujam, president, UCM as the functional president and Sagolsem Sana, vice-president, Parao Development Association as the guest of honour.
Meanwhile, W Nupendra, representative of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) , Bishnupur district graced the programme as the resource person.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam lauded the Agriculture Minister and the relevant department for supplying UCM with urea under ATMA, water pump sets under PMKSY and sprayer pump under RKVY which made it possible for UCM volunteers to distribute these items to farmers.
He added that the day's training programme marked the 14th programme conducted so far with the goal of ensuring self-reliance in food production.
Through these training programmes, experts advised farmers on how to conserve soil fertility, increase crop yield, proper use of pesticides among others.
The UCM president also urged the farmers to constitute farmers' clubs to ensure that they avail themselves of the various benefits provided by the Government.
Stating that it is the efforts of farmers that makes food readily available for consumption, he expressed UCM's unflinching support towards the farming community.
Further, he urged the Agriculture Department to introduce new technologies that will increase the yield of crops and support the farmers with new agricultural schemes.
As a part of the programme, 50 bags of urea were distributed to farmers at subsidized rates.
