IMPHAL, Sep 6 : The North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has written to Chief Minister N Biren Singh regarding the shortage of teachers and infrastructure in Poiroukhongjin High School.
A press release issued by NEFIS said that they came to know of the shortage of the teaching staff after a video of students throwing books in front of the Headmaster's office surfaced on social media.
According to NEFIS, Poiroukhongjin High School currently has only 12 teachers for Classes 1 to X.
In the memorandum, the forum urged the Chief Minister to resolve the issue by recruiting more teachers and establishing proper educational infrastructure.
NEFIS also claimed that the funds of the school have been  misappropriated by a particular official.
Claiming that the school also doesn't have teachers  for Hindi and Home Science subjects, NEFIS continued that there is only one teacher each for subjects such as Science, Social Science, English, Mathematics, and Manipuri too.
Further claiming that issues of inadequate staff and infrastructure impede imparting quality education to students at most of the Government schools in Manipur, it opined that  establishing more schools which are properly equipped and have  sufficient manpower could go a long way in providing better  education facilities to poor students.
