12-month training course on Diabetes management kicks off

IMPHAL, Jan 28: A 12-month training course on 'Evidence Based Diabetes Management' jointly conducted by the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI); NCD Cell, Health Department, Government of Manipur and Dr Mohan's Diabetes Centre, Chennai was kicked off  yesterday at Hotel Sangai, Nagamapal.
It may be noted that the 12-month course was launched as part of the National programme for 'Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS)'.
Dignitaries present at the event include Dr Somorjit Ningombam, State Mission Director, NHM as the chief guest; Dr Y Premchandra, Joint Director (Planning) and State Nodal Officer, NCD as the functional president and Dr Pushkar Kumar, Director (Training), PHFI and Dr Deepak Monga, Manager, Training Sub-Division, PHFI as the guests of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Somorjit Ningombam stated that the training course was organised after thorough research to deduce which medicines should be prescribed to treat diabetes successfully or to recommend physical activity as a mode of treatment. Stating that representatives from every district will participate in the training course, he shared that a contact session will be conducted within a month.
He added that it was a 'hands-on' training course and would provide more knowledge on the subject matter than MBBS courses. Lastly, he stated that one of the main goals of the course was to provide expert advice and medicines at the doorstep of patients in regions where this training course is not available in hospitals.
