97 acres of poppy plantation razed to the ground, two held

IMPHAL, Jan 30: Altogether 97 acres of poppy plantations have been destroyed by law enforcing agencies in Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts today apart from arresting two poppy planters as part of the War on Drugs campaign.
A combined team of Imphal East district police, NAB, Forest officials and troops of 4 AR carried out a poppy destruction drive at L Lhangnom hill range.
Apart from destroying 22 acres of poppy plantation, the combined team arrested two poppy planters.
The arrested men have been identified as Seiboigin Baite, secretary of L Lhangnom village and Soginlun Baite of L Lhangnom village which is located under Saikul sub-division in Kangpokpi district.
A case has been registered against them at Sagolmang police station.
On the other hand, a combined team of Teng-noupal district police, NAB and Forest officials destroyed 55 acres of poppy plantation at SL Zougam village hill range and another 20 acres at Khudei Khullen village hill range.
