IMPHAL, Jan 5: Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) has alleged that 'Manipur is reeling with water scarcity issue due to faulty implementation of 'Water Policy' by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED)'.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, MPDF secretary Sapam Samungou emphasized on the difficulties faced by the people of the State due to scarcity of water which is an inevitable need for survival.
He expressed that it is high time that the Government acknowledge this issue of grave concern and take up remedial measures at the earliest.
With regards to the Jal Jeevan Mission which is aimed at providing safe drinking water to all households, Samungou raised questions on the implementation process of the scheme in the State.
Maintaining that the people of the State have been facing water scarcity issues for years, he highlighted that people have been spending a huge amount of money on buying water for daily use which is unfortunate.
Considering the plights of the people, he appealed to the authorities concerned of State Government to formulate an effective State Water Policy in the interest of the masses thereby providing regular supply of safe water to every household.
He also opined that various measures including rain harvesting schemes, keeping water bodies such as ponds and lakes clean and hygienic etc. will immensely help in addressing water scarcity issues.
