Plans for reduction of road accidents discussed

The State Level Road Safety Council (SLRSC) meeting was held today at Old Secretariat, Imphal under the chairmanship of Khashim Vashum, Minister of Transport, a statement from the Transport Department has shared.
During the course of the meeting, details of road safety measures and action plans to be executed to reduce road accidents and fatalities in the State were discussed, the statement added. Further, the Council resolved to hold its meeting twice every year in January and July and decided to make the lead agency office functional with the nomination of staff/officers from line departments like Police, Health, PWD, Education and so on. The meeting discussed future plans for the next three years for reduction of road accidents and resulting fatalities, implementation of revised rules and regulations of Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, road safety awareness program etc.
The statement issued by Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam, Director (Transport), Manipur added that the Council also advised the Director, Transport to conduct Road Safety Week from January 11 to 17 in the State by organizing awareness program for the drivers including free medical health check up of drivers, conducting special drive on roads to stop defaulters, special drive to stop overloading, special drive for checking of reflective tapes on trucks/trolleys etc.
