CCpur, Jan 5: The Union Home Minister’s planned inauguration of Churachandpur Medical College tomorrow is set to be a grand and expensive affair as Churachandpur rolls up all sleeves to welcome the BJP strongman for the second time in as many years.
Amit Shah will land here in a helicopter from Imphal but will return to Imphal by road via the INA Headquarters at Moirang where he will also address a public meeting.
The local administration along with the local MLAs have mobilized every resource available at their disposal to give the Union Minister the impression that he is welcome.
The ADC Churachandpur too went out of its way as many of its employees were deployed to sweep or clean the roads the VIP will be passing through.
All roads the Union Minister will take during his visit have been swept and repaired and they are already adorned with colourful flags.
The Deputy Commissioner has made a public appeal calling on the people to come out in droves with their traditional attire and line-up on the route from 10 am. Additionally, at least two colleges were learnt to have been requested by the DC to send their students for the same.
About 10 Kms of roads from the helipad of 36 AR to Churachandpur’s border village of Kangvai will be involved in the exercise which the Deputy Commissioner said was intended to show the spirit of oneness and gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for the first Medical College in the hill districts of the State.
The route to be taken by the visiting dignitary has also been declared as no fly zone for drones and UAVs.
All unattended vehicles and construction materials piled-up along have also been ordered to be cleared by 3 pm today.
By 7 pm tonight when this correspondent visited the Medical College site, heavy machineries were still at work laying bitumen on the road. Many of these stretches are being black-topped or expanded for the first time in over a decade.
