United Nations Day observed

The Lions Club of Imphal observed United Nations Day at its Sangaiprou Service Centre today.
On the occasion, Th Imomacha Singh delivered the keynote address on the topic "Relationship between the United Nations and Lions International". He shared that Lions International played a significant role in the establishment of the United Nations in 1945 at the end of the 2nd World War, said a statement issued by Manas Maisnam, secretary, Lions Club of Imphal.
The United Nations also promotes initiatives of the Lions Club in connection with vision, diabetes, environment, hunger and childhood cancer. In addition, the UN also conducts an annual observation "Lions Day at United Nations" (LDUN) with this year's observance being held under the theme "Hunger, Nutrition & Wellness", said Th Imomacha Singh.   
During the ceremony, Dr W Gopimohan, PMJF released the quarterly bulletin of Lions Club and the 31st Students Debating Competition was also held on the topic "In the 21st Century, United Nations has failed to resolve conflicts among nations".
Maria Montessori School bagged the team championship trophy while Sainik School  were declared the runners up. In individual category, Bembox Salam of DM College of Arts, Deeptendu Mutum of Sainik School and Laimayum Promila of Maria Montessori School bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. Two consolation prizes were also handed out.
Lions Club of Imphal also handed out garden umbrellas with Lions Club logo at Kwakeithel Bazar under their 'One Multiple One Activity' project.
Separately, the Directorate of Regional Indian Languages and Research (DRILR), Manipur International University observed United Nations Day today at the conference hall of the University.
Alongside the observance ceremony, the gathering also celebrated the 3rd Manipur International Oral Language, Oral Spoken Literature and Short Documentary Film Festival.
The event was graced by Professor Thokchom Chandramani, Dean, DRILR; Dr Harikumar, Chancellor, Manipur International University and MD Salaodin, Deputy Director, MOBC as the presidium members with Swati Raje, founder president, Bhaashaa Foundation, Pune and Dr Parman, Regional Director, Central Institute of Hindi, Agra also joining through video conference.
The event was kicked off with a presentation of songs from the Sakok Thiren (a holy book of the Meeteis), also known as Haurakpa Puya. Following this, a short documentary film produced by DRILR titled "The Maring Naga Seed Sowing Ceremony: The Vanishing Traditional Lifestyle and Culture of Ethnic Community of NE India" was screened.
