IMPHAL, Nov 13 : As part of Irabot Foundation Manipur's ‘Grow More Food’ campaign, seeds of winter crops were also distributed to farmers of Kakching Khunou today.
In addition, Irabot Foundation Manipur president Kh Gopen Luwang went out and sowed pea seeds at Kakching Khunou Rising Ground.
The Irabot Foundation Manipur team led by Kh Gopen Luwang distributed seeds of winter crops such as cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, peas, tomato, lady's finger etc to the farmers.
The seeds were sponsored by the State Horticulture Department.
Speaking in this connection, Kh Gopen Luwang called for mutual cooperation among people with regard to farming activities to facilitate increased food production and self-sufficiency in the midst of this conflict.
Further, he called for consumption of crops locally produced by the farmers to promote good health and thus face the challenges to Manipur territorial integrity.
In order to make up for the devastating economic loss caused by the Manipur crisis to agriculture and its allied departments, the farming community needs to collectively work hard and play a key role in improving the State's economy, he said.
Kh Gopen also urged the attending farmers to contact Irabot Foundation Manipur if their crops are infected by pests while adding that they will bring experts to further educate them on the matter.
The event was graced by Khumukcham Brojen, former Councillor, Kakching Khunou Municipal Council Ward No 8 and other notable personalities.
