IMPHAL, Mar 16 : Laman Polo Club (LPC) defeated K&MM Riding School 8-2 in the opening match of the the 2nd State Women's Polo Tournament, 2023 at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
With this defeat, K&MM Riding School have been ousted from the tournament while LPC will meet Chingkheihunba Polo Club in the semi final.
LPC displayed their expertise in the field throughout the match as they scored two goals in the first chukker, another two in the second, three in the 3rd and one in the fourth chukker while K&MM Riding School managed to convert a goal each in the second and fourth chukker.
The goal scorers of the winning side were Ranjita Yumnam (2 goals), Lucy (2 goals), Yumnam Anjali (2 goals), Mona Kamei (1 goal) and Nena Kamei (1 goal).
The two goals of K&MM Riding School, on the other hand, were netted by Shria Yumkhaibam and Salam Ngounu Chanu .
The opening ceremony was graced by Khangabok AC MLA Surjakumar Okram, ex Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services Dr S Joykumar Singh, Olympian Ksh Thoiba and MPTC Director RK Tutusana.
The Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association, Imphal is the organiser of the tournament which will end on March 19.
Altogether five teams viz Chingkheihunba Polo Club, Laman Polo Club, K&MM Riding School, MPSC Polo Team and Imphal Riding Cup are the participants.
MPSC Polo Team will square off Imphal Riding Club in the next game and the winner will meet either LPC or
Chingkheihunba Polo Club in the final.
