IMPHAL, Mar 17: A three-day residential training workshop on "Hands-on-Science (Chemistry) for Science Teachers of Hill Districts of Manipur" was kicked off today at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak today.
The residential training workshop was jointly organised by the Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC) and Vigyan Prasar (VP), DST, Government of India, New Delhi.
Dignitaries present at the event included Thongam Biswajit Singh, Science & Technology Minister as the chief guest; Homila Hongrei, Director, Science & Technology; Dr Arindam Rana, Professor, City College, Kolkata and Yaiskul Meitei, Commissioner, Science & Technology as the guests of honour and Dr L Minaketan Singh, Director, MASTEC as the functional president.
Speaking as the chief guest, Th Biswajit Singh called for the enthusiastic participation of the hill district science teachers in this residential training workshop.
He urged the 31 teachers who are participating in the workshop to absorb the knowledge imparted by subject experts and use it to teach students.
Stating that the teaching of science requires some specific techniques, the Science & Technology advised teachers to employ practical means to teach science to students. In this regard, he highlighted digital learning as a good example of practical teaching of science.
In order for society to develop as a whole, there is a great need for science education. And it is the responsibility of teachers to educate the young students on the subject, he said.
