Covid warrior feted

IMPHAL, Mar 17 : The State Government felicitated women frontline warriors who carried out Covid vaccination programmes during the peak of the pandemic, today.
The felicitation ceremony was jointly organised by State Health Society NHM, Manipur and Directorate of Family Welfare in association with Church's Auxiliary for Social Action at the conference hall of the Social Welfare Department.
Dubbed as "Felicitation of Women COVID-19 Vaccination Champions," the programme was graced by State Mission Director of NHM Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam; Director of Family Welfare Services Dr Lalthari Hmar; Additional Director, Dr O Sanahal Devi and State Immunisation Officer Dr Chambo Gonmei as dignitaries.
At the ceremony, Dr Somorjit said that the first case of Covid in Manipur was detected in March 2020 and the pandemic gripped the State for over 2 years killing over  2000 people and infecting a large number of people.
Those infected by Covid had to be isolated from their families, while people in the frontline performed their duties and attended to the infected folks even during the peak of the pandemic, he acknowledged.
Saying that today's ceremony was held to show gratitude to female Covid warriors who made the vaccination programme against the contagion successful, Dr  Somorjit thanked all the Covid warriors.
Dr Lalthari Hmar maintained that the commitment shown by the  female Covid warriors in carrying out vaccination programmes to prevent infections and save lives during the pandemic was commendable.
The felicitation ceremony was held as a part of International Women's Day.
