One arrested for poppy plantation

IMPHAL, Mar 18 : Senapati police arrested one person for engaging in poppy plantation work at Ngatan village in Senapati district, yesterday.
He has been identified as Santosh Kami (30), s/o Rajen Kami of Santolabari village, Kangpokpi currently staying at Ngatan village.
Reportedly, Santosh Kami was arrested from the poppy plantation site by a team of district administration and Senapati police while carrying out a drive at Ngatan village.
The combined team also destroyed poppies planted at Ngatan in a land measuring about one acre and seized three bags of harvested poppies from a nearby hut.
The team then went to Khomsong area and found poppies being planted in acres of land during a drone survey.
The poppies, however, weren't destroyed as the team couldn't go to the plantation site due to bad weather conditions.
Speaking to media persons, Officer-in-Charge of Senapati police station said that a case has been registered against the poppy planter and investigation is underway to find others involved.
He also said that they will destroy the poppy plantations detected during the drone survey.
Notably, Chief Minister N Biren has made it clear that the Government would never compromise on the War on Drugs.
