8th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2022-23 begins

IMPHAL, Mar 19: The 8th All Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2022-23 was kicked off today at the auditorium hall of Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) located at Yaiskul.
The five-day folk drama festival was organised by MDU and is set to conclude on March 23.
The inaugural function was attended by Kangjam Radhakumar Singh, president, Manipur Cultural Council as the chief guest; Soraisham Keshoram, president, Manipur Dramatic Union as the functional president and Makhonmani Mongshaba, Assistant Professor, manipur University of Culture as the guest of honour.
The 8th  All Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2022-23 was conducted under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and will witness the performance of several dramas, including, Manipur Dramatic Union's "Haorang Leishang Saphabi" directed by S Keshoram on March 19; Kodompokpi Dramatic Union's "Lishangnu Saphabee" directed by KB Sharma on March 20; Bashikhong Dramatic Association's "Nura Santhalembi directed by M Ibomcha on March 21' Langmeidong Dramatic Union's "Khoiren Naha Saphaba" directed by S Ratan Singh on March 22 and Blooming Cultural Academy of Performing Arts' "Henjunaha" directed by N Jadumani on the last day of the festival i.e March 23.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangjam Radhakumar Singh urged people to promote folk literature left behind by the forefathers.
He maintained that without an understanding of folk literature, one cannot develop an appreciation for folk dramas and highlighted the importance of dramas as one of the cradles of culture.
