Bomb explodes at Ukl Mini Secretariat

Ukhrul, Mar 21 : A high intensity Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off inside the Mini Secretariat complex at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul today.
Reportedly, the bomb was lobbed from outside and it exploded at the northern block of the Secretariat at around 4.30 pm.
No one was hurt.
Following the explosion, Ukhrul DC Krishna Kumar, SP Ningsem Vashum, ADC Chunglenmang Kipgen, Addl SP Samir, SDPOs and others rushed to the site and took stock of the situation.
The side wall of the Mini Secretariat was damaged by the impact of the explosion while a crater was formed near the site.
Speaking to media persons, the Ukhrul DC said that an inquiry has been instituted to arrest the culprit(s) while security arrangements have been beefed up to maintain law and order in the district.
He appealed to the people of Ukhrul to co-operate with the security agencies to book the miscreants at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED), Ukhrul staff staged a sit in protest today against the bomb threat carried out at its office at Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
The remote-control bomb was found planted yesterday.
The staff urged the individual(s) or group concerned to shun violence and resolve misunderstandings, if any, through peaceful dialogue.
According to the staff, the bomb was found fitted inside a box with battery, motherboard and digital signal light box attached at the main entrance gate of the Executive Engineer office at around 5.30 pm.
The staff immediately reported to the Ukhrul police about the finding, following which the police cordoned the area off.
According to sources, 500 gm of Trinitrotoluene (TNT) was found inside the bomb and it could have caused extensive damage if it exploded. The bomb was defused by experts from Imphal and it was detonated in an isolated area this morning at around 8.30.
A case has been registered at Ukhrul police Station.
