IMPHAL, Mar 31
Villagers of Makhan and the Makhan (Makhen) Village Authority have sought the State Government's support in the expansion work of Makhan Road which is well known for its interconnectivity to Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) and AH2 (Asian Highway 2).
A release issued by Makhan Village Authority informed the expansion of Makhan Road has been a long-held wish of Makhan village, Kangpokpi district.
"The work of expanding the 12-foot- wide road is underway now. The road now has a width of 50 ft, which is wider than the two-lane National Highway", it added.
Pointing out that Makhan Road serves as network and free flow of traffic with motorists plying to and fro, the VA stated that under the able leadership of the chief, chairman and Village Authority in line with a vision and earnestness for holistic development, expansion of the 2-km-long road began on March 9, 2023.
It informed that maneuvering and operating three backhoe loaders (JCB) and four tipper trucks with an expenditure of about Rs 1,20,000 is incurred per working day.
"Since the fund earmarked and allocated from the Village Authority exchequer is running well below the estimated amount of money needed for the expansion work, the Village Authority has been humbly soliciting monetary donations from across all age-groups of the village", it added.
The VA continued that there are three hallmarks of the road expansion, first is the construction of a 50- foot-wide road, second is the presence of gorge or crevasse lying along the western side of the road and third is the maintenance of a uniform width of 50 ft from Point A (Makhan Village) to Point B (AH2) passing Imphal via Kanglatongbi.
"With the village treasury and reserves fast drying up, the monetary donations from the compassionate villagers and across all sections of society from the vicinity and beyond remain only a mere subsistence. Therefore, Makhan Village is seeking for an expeditious help from the Government of Manipur", it added.
