JNIMS hold workshop on organ donation

Imphal, Apr 2 (DIPR) : A workshop on Strengthening of Organ Donation and Transplantation Process was held at the Conference Hall of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Porompat on Saturday.
The workshop was organized by JNIMS in association with Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN) Foundation, India.
At the function, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said that the doctors of JNIMS have been saving and improving the lives of the people who need organ transplants.
He congratulated the doctors of JNIMS team on successfully conducting 25 kidney transplantation surgeries.
JNIMS, RIMS and SHIJA have been doing kidney transplants successfully in the State, the Minister added.
Dr Ranjan continued that the first successful kidney transplantation surgery was done at JNIMS.
The State Government takes the health sector seriously and wants the people to get the benefit of CMHT and PM-JAY, he said.
He went on to state that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 99th episode of Mann Ki Baat stressed on the importance of organ transplantation.
As far as the State is concerned, the Minister said that he would walk the extra mile and extend all possible help within the ambit of the law to make the transplant work successful.
He appealed to the doctors, nurses and the staff of JNIMS to provide quality healthcare facilities to the people.
On the spike of kidney diseases in the State, the Minister said that it is high time to carry out research work and ascertain the causes.
JNIMS Director L Deben Singh; Medical Superintendent Prof Kh Lokeshwar Singh; Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation Dr Sunil Shroff; CMD Shija Hospital & Research Institute Pvt Ltd Dr Palin Khundongbam, RIMS Director Prof H Priyosakhi Devi and others attended the workshop.
An update on the kidney transplant programme was presented by Prof K Sholay Meitei, Dept. of Urology, JNIMS.
It may be mentioned that the first successful kidney transplant and second in North-East India was done on June 18, 2022 by a team of doctors at JNIMS. The team was awarded a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
