Expert horticulture team distributes fertilizers at Kamjong

A one-day awareness and training programme on 'Pest and Disease Management of Fruit Crops and Environmental Impacts of Poppy Cultivation' was conducted at Phungyar Bazar Community Hall, Kamjong yesterday.
The programme was conducted by an expert horticulture team led by District Officer Kh Manorama; Dr Roshan Dangmei, Officer-in-charge, Plant Health Clinic, Sanjenthong and CNJS Arangba Mangang, Agriculture Officer.
The awareness and training programme was jointly organized by District Office Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Kamjong and Phungyar Town People Organisation (PTPO), Phungyar.
According to the District Officer, the expert team initiated the programme after receiving reports of pests on horticulture crops like oranges and a decline in their yield.
She further sought cooperation of the villagers to inform the Department regarding any horticulture related problems in their areas.
During the training programme, the farmers highlighted their grievances to the expert team who, in turn, offered solutions. A farmer expressed his gratitude to the department for conducting the programme in their village and at the same time appealed to the expert team to conduct soil tests in the area and to identify suitable crops according to soil suitability.
The team also distributed organic fertilizers and organic pesticides like BoneMeal, Neemkhali, Metarhizium Trichoderma, Beauveria, Plant growth regulator etc.
And tools including water pump set and sprinkler irrigation systems were also distributed.
