IMPHAL, May 24: An intense gun battle reportedly ensued between a combined force of Army and Assam Rifles and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) near Lairam Phungka Village in Kamjong district.
A reliable source informed that both sides exchanged heavy fire for many hours from morning till afternoon yesterday although occurrence of casualty on both sides cannot be confirmed as of yet.
The source further informed that Army and Assam Rifles have sent reinforcements besides conducting combing operations at villages near the site of the gun battle.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the assistant secretary, publicity of RPF, Bangkim said that the cadres of PLA who were on a duty at Lairam Phungka were surrounded by Indian forces.
RPF said that its cadres instantly launched an attack on the security forces who surrounded them.
